milk numbers

(Oct 05) Mixed media: index cards, plastic specimen bags and litter in card box (10'' x 8'' x 7''); file for participants' contact details; typewritten instructions sheets.

283 things were collected from the pavement of Wolseley Road in the course of a year, and archived alphabetically according to subject matter. Each thing (usually small bits of paper with text or images) was sealed in a plastic specimen bag and individually labelled with a sequence of numbers and letters documenting the colour of the paper and text, the presence or absence of images, legibility, and whether type or handwriting was used. Members of the public were invited to take up to 8 pieces and redistribute them (keeping them in circulation by re-littering, hiding them in a public place, disposing of them, etc.). They are asked to document the redistribution and send their findings back to Wolseley Road.

Milk Numbers was exhibited as part of Glowlab in Boston in December 2005. The project is ongoing.
