The film uses subtitles to set up unlikely equivalences between the tenuously connected French text (spoken) and the English translation (written), drawing them together and pinning them apart. Surrounded by darkness, the wavering windows suggest solitary boats: floating grammars of the lives that exist within the frames of their separate window panes.
