Exploring an unrecognizable object with needle and thread.
The video focusses on the positions of objects within an economy of meaning. In terms of function, the object featured cannot be read in any meaningful way, since its source and purpose are unknown.
The object was collected from a second-hand shop as part of my 2006 ‘Strathpeffers’ project, in which unrecognizable objects were re-packaged and presented with a ‘translatorese’ text explaining a new, fictional use - repositioning the contextless objects into a new economy of meaning, albeit distant and unfamiliar.
