correspondence

(Apr 05) A4 document file with bureaucratic correspondence. Life drawings of myself in pencil on each page. Viewers are invited to leaf through the file.

Identical life drawings of myself in light pencil are drawn on items of bureaucratic correspondence that I have received, including a mobile phone bill, a cervical smear test reminder letter, notification of water charges, a council tax debit form and a BS4/02 form from the Inland Revenue.

The drawings are faint against the text and grids of the official letters; my pose is closed and vulnerable, excluding the viewer and rejecting the obligations of adulthood. The quiet impact of the naked figure - appearing without fail on each document in the same never-changing pose - becomes the beat of a whispered mantra, suggesting the steady assertion of a quiet intervention.
