I am an artist and writer working with text, video and sculptural installation to examine gesture and pictorial figuration in drawing and writing.
I’ve recently completed commissions for Tate Britain, Art on the Underground, Modern Art Oxford and the London Word Festival, and further afield have shown performance, video and text work including at MOCCA Toronto, Beton7 Athens, AC Institute New York and AUX Philadelphia. Recent art writing and fiction has been published by the ICA, Art on the Underground, Art Licks, Live Art Development Agency and LemonMelon; recent poetry by Bloodaxe, The Other Room and Red Ceilings Press with Maintenant. My most recent artist book olololo was published by Modern Art Oxford, produced by Book Works studio. In 2014-16 I am part of the inaugural team of research residents of the Hub at the Wellcome Collection London, and through 2016 I am artist writer in residence at Spike Island.
In October 2013 I began a practice-led doctorate at the University of Oxford supported by the Clarendon Fund, the Gosling Postgraduate Award and the St Edmund Hall Graduate Scholarship. Details of the research project, Drawing: The Point of Contact, are online here alongside my DPhil blog. Prior to this my MFA in Art Writing at Goldsmiths (2010) examined figuration in metafictional literature and was supported by an AHRC research award and the Goldsmiths Postgraduate Scholarship. My interest in writing and figuration developed through an undergraduate degree in linguistics and medieval Italian literature at the University of Oxford (2004) and subsequently through a BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins (2007).
