(Feb 05) Performance to camera (7:20 min)


In this piece I perform a systematic set of tasks in a strict order which is denoted by the sound of a voice reciting a sequence of figures (A1, A12, A13, etc. to Z123456 and then back down again). Tasks performed included switching on and off a desk lamp, radio, iPod and cassette player, underlining words on a page and tucking my hair behind my ears.

Here the character from the W5 project who documented bus crossings, and who alphabetised her actions in the Archived Week, turns up again. In this project her actions themselves are subject to systemacity. They begin quietly, reach a peak of manic activity, and then become calm once more as the character responds to the demands of structured, codified rules from an unseen dictator.
